Presentation Title: When Learning Becomes An Event

Presentation Description: As an educator, how do you make learning sticky for your students? This session will explore the concept of making ordinary lessons and projects extraordinary by celebrating even the little things that occur within our classrooms and schools on a daily basis.

Find out how you can make learning become an event by considering common elements woven through a variety of success stories and reflecting upon your own personal successes as an educator.

    Hi Andy,
    Thanks for sharing your ideas on learning as an event. I particularly like your statement, “the world is my classroom.” Every time I’ve gone out of my school to connect with others worldwide, I’m always amazed by my students’ level of engagement.

    I know a few schools who participated with you online from Churchill. That was some learning event. Whose idea was it to send you up north and share your experiences with students worldwide?

    @Jo-Anne – Thanks for your feedback 🙂

    The experience of traveling to Churchill to bring the polar bear migration & global climate change crisis to life for classrooms around the world all happened through Edmodo. I was asked if I’d be willing/able to represent them as the facilitator of that week’s Tundra Connection webcasts. It was such an incredible learning experience for everyone involved – truly a remarkable event 😉

    Hi Andy,
    I haven’t looked at Edmodo before. We’re looking for a good alternative to Blogger which we have a constant battle with to stay unblocked at the divisional level. Do you think Edmodo might a possible alternative? Can students have their own Edmodo accounts which can then be linked to a teacher’s account? I’m assuming videos and pictures can be embedded?

    @Jo-Anne – I think you’ll find Edmodo could be a very good fit for the things you’re looking to do with your students. I’d be happy to share a lot more information with you about it, but maybe in a different space – email me & we’ll talk 🙂
