Presentation Description: Come learn about and listen to student voices highlighted on Authentic Voices (http://authentic-voices.wikispaces.com/) a wiki co-developed with a Language Arts teacher and a Technology Integration Specialist at an alternative setting. Authentic Voices is a place where students upload original pieces of writing along with an audio file of them reading their piece. Listen to at least three of the pieces students have composed and learn how students begin to authentically revise their work when creating an audio file of their work. Consider how students begin to see themselves differently as a result of publishing their work online. While Authentic Voices has a global audience (over 60 countries), we do not yet have another classroom that regularly comments on our students’ writing or posts their own writing on this site. Ponder efforts and challenges to finding collaborative classrooms.

I love that you are bringing student voices into your presentation. I know that is logical, given your topic, but still … it was nice to hear.
It’s valuable your sharing of all of the free tools, as it might pave the way for more teachers.
I am very intrigued by how we can use audio for revision, and how students hearing themselves read their writing can give them another perspective on their writing. I need to do more of this. Thanks for reminding me of this.

What a super presentation, Kyle! Thanks so much for sharing this. I especially liked and appreciated the ways you included student voices via audio recordings. Have you been just having students upload their audio into WikiSpaces? If you transition to a blog like KidBlog you can still have students do that, but it might be better/easier to have them embed audio from a site/service like AudioBoo.
I think it’s a good idea to transition to a blog, because it makes it easier to leave comments and moderate comments. From what I’ve seen it’s harder to manage/moderate comments in WikiSpaces.
Our entire librarian/media specialist team in Yukon Schools is going to watch, discuss and respond to your video at our monthly meeting next week. I’m so excited to share it!
We enjoyed viewing your presentation during our district Media Specialist Professional Development workshop on digital presentations. The students work was so impressive.
