Where do I find stuff?

If you’re new to k12 online and aren’t sure where to find stuff, let me see if I can help. First of all, there is a lot of stuff on this site. We currently have 2 years of presentations and are now adding a 3rd year of content. Trying to keep all the information easily accessible is a challenge.

The first place to start is the green links in the upper right hand side of every page. These are your quick links to the most important stuff. The firstTimers link will take you to our helpdesk site which will answer many if not all of your questions.

The links down the right hand side beginning with the title “Categories” will have you find specific strands from previous years and this year’s presentations.

A live help desk is staffed throughout the duration of the conference to assist anyone needing help with any aspect of this unique learning event. Again look in the upper right corner of every page of the blog for the Help Desk link with more information about getting assistance.

One of the best ways to download and watch conference is presentations is by using free podcatcher software like iTunes. To facilitate downloading of video and audio versions of conference presentations, separate “podcast channels” for audio and video are available for the 2008 conference. (Past channels for 2007 are available too!)

If you still have questions,  leave a comment below and someone will get back to you. We aim to please.

I just wanted to give you feedback just from my perspective that right now the K12 Online site is overwhelming. I have tried to take some time to go back and look at what I missed and each time I give up. It just takes too much time to figure out where to go.

Here is what I would like to see: On the front page a clear title and description of the conference and three links-one to each year.

Then on each year a list of the main topics that are linked to different presentations. I am not sure where to put all of the feeds that are now on the front page, but I know that most teachers are not interested in looking at them at first. Maybe there could be a link that says “Read what people are saying about this” or something like that.

This way I could quickly go in when I have a few minutes and find 2008 and then browse a few of the presentations that apply to what I am doing. If I want to I can go back to 2006 or 2007 to catch other ones I had missed.

Again, this is just from my own perspective and may not apply to anyone else. I am probably not aware of many things.

Thanks for doing all of this,

    Janice

I couldn’t agree with you more. I am overwhelmed when I see a busy page. Graphic organization makes reading/learning easier for many of us. I have been through a great deal of the conference and learned a great deal. How much have I missed because I followed only a part of a busy tree of presentations? I can’t say, but I know I won’t be going back to it again, just waiting for the next conference.

I have some sympathy with the previous two posts … I’m finding it difficult to navigate around .. what’s the trick?

In particular I’d love to find an online version of the Sept 2009 LAN party presentation on Video in the Classroom …. I watched the beginning then had to sleep at 2:00am

So if anyone can help with a url of the video then I’d be most grateful

Also realise the 2009 home page is sending me to a page “Where do I find stuff?” which is 2008

    Many thanks
