Presentation Title: The #WalkMyWorld Project: Exploring the use of digital texts and tools as a means to connect, collaborate, & share

Presentation Description: The purpose of this session is to bring together multiple perspectives and participants to conceptualize #WalkMyWorld as a space to explore avenues for pre-service teachers, as a tool for focusing on media literacies, and as an exploration of a community of writers. Evolving pedagogical models for new literacies and emerging technologies allow texts to unfold in new reading and writing spaces. These studies explore an evolving “community of inquiry” called #WalkMyWorld. This cross-platform poetry project cut across chronotopes of time and space as participants explored various lifeworlds by responding to and authoring multi-modal poetry.

Presentation Title: Passion-Driven Learning in #clmooc- Supporting Teacher Agency in Making and Learning

Presentation Description: Making Learning Connected 2014 (#clmooc) was truly a hub for igniting innovation and inspiring passion in Connected Learning. Each week, our “Make Cycle” initiated a new strand of thinking that was taken up, modified, and remixed in a variety of ways. In our video presentation, we will briefly share the background of #clmooc, the theory of action behind establishing iterative “Make Cycles” as well as highlight example “Makes” that were created and shared. We will also share some of the resources that were developed during Making Learning Connected 2014 that might be useful for others thinking about this work in their own contexts, such as collected archives of weekly newsletters, webinars and Twitter chats.

Presentation Description: What do West Texas Highways, abandoned buildings, London Based English translators, Cancer Research, and a man dressed in a pink flamingo outfit have to do with connecting our students? In “We are all Connected” Tim Holt takes the viewers through a personal journey of self discovery and learns the important lesson that we are all indeed connected, even in places where you might think we are not.

Additional Information:
Tim has a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Instruction, and another in Education Leadership. Tim has been in the education field for over 27 years, first as a teacher, then an education facilitator, a researcher, and a Director of Instructional Technology. And if you count his years as a student, he pretty much has been in education all his life.

Tim is a past President of the Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT) and as well as being a Past President of the Technology Directors Special Interest Group (TECSIG) of the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA). He is the recipient of the ISTE “Pink Jacket” award for achievement in Education Technology.

His blog, Holtthink (Holtthink.tumblr.com) was named one of the top 50 most influential Education Technology blogs for the second year in a row by Ed Tech Magazine.

Tim lives in Canutillo Texas, just outside of El Paso, where he has been a lifelong resident of the area. He is married to Lora Holt and has 4 wonderful children.
