[...] Scratch is an interactive programing program that was developed by MIT students and is free to the public. Its a pretty cool thing and when I get done I’m going to show it two both of my sons and if my arty daughter wants to see she can join in also. This is a cool tool for teachers to work with all disciplines where students program games, tutorials, displays and just about anything for any subject.It is open ended learning that works at the highest levels of Bloom’s taxonomy. I learned a lot about programming during this session and that there’s a lot of geometry involved in programing too. I’m all for things that push math and science! Could I use this in my class? Yes I could! Whether I have Anatomy physiology students produce tutorial for their hormones or endocrine glands and have them produce an interactive quiz at the end of their presentations or use it with my freshmen in biology where they make cartoons that deal with various biochemical process there is ample opportunities for students to become engaged in the biological sciences while working on a computer and programing stuff.
