[…] Playing in Public was presented by George Couros and posted by Wesley Fryer in November of 2011. ”As social media continues to grow, the opportunity to engage in our own learning publicly and learn from others, grows with it. In this presentation, George Couros shares some examples of people “playing publicly” and learning with no end in sight. To be comfortable in doing this, leaders must show that they are risk-takers and lead by example in this environment. George shows how when leaders are willing to learn in such a public manner, it trickles down to all educators, and most importantly, our kids.” Once again the theme of modeling the behavior and expectations you want is addressed. If we want students to use social media responsibly, then we show them how we use it. The concept makes perfect sense. Since we are all human, I would be a bit worried about making a mistake, especially if this ‘public play’ has no end in sight. That means it could go where one would not expect which can be a good or bad thing. As long as boundaries are set, rules and regulations, etc. I think this business of learning could be extraordinary. Kids can pick up from educators what we want them to and then their creativity and imagination can take it to levels no one could dream of. This reminds me of Ed Parkour. I am so excited to have my own classroom and see the products my students come up with after I teach, utilizing all I am learning now. […]
