  1. Hi Everyone,
I hope you enjoyed the keynote. Here are essential questions we might consider in our discussion:
    1. How do we define information/media fluency for the 2009/2010 school year? What does it look like?
    2. Introducing new tools is one thing, making powerful connections beyond the walls of our schools is another. How can we scale meaningful collaboration? What strategies work? Are sustainable?
    3. How do we ensure equity? How can we narrow the access gap?
    4. What should we expect a student’s academic digital footprint to look like?

  2. I just stumbled across your charming presentation… proving that learning can be fun, and whimsical, and yet stay focused, and relevant.
Kudos to Dr. Valenza, and her talented cohorts, for such a lively
    educational tool!

  3. First off, the use of the theatre students was awesome and I have suggested that our theatre teacher watch the video (that also gets him into your video which was filled with wonderful info).
For anyone who has not seen it yet and is reading these to see what the comments say, I would tell you to watch it. You will want to watch it again for key items of interest. And, you will want to recommend it to your fellow teachers.
I would have to say that more than half of the things you shared I either use or have tried. Probably 25% were items I had heard of and had wanted to check out. And, the last 25% were things I either hadn’t heard of or hadn’t thought about using in my classroom. Thank you.

  6. Good presentation of a multitude of tools. You covered more advanced resources as well as great tools for younger kids. Love the Boolify app. Everyone, be sure to check out the SlideShare view of all docs as they are nearly impossible to decipher through the regular feed.

  13. Since the Wizard of Oz is my all-time favorite movie it is a sure bet that I am going to love this presentation. I have been walking around my house singing the songs….not sure if it is a good thing or a little nutty! Can’t wait to share with teachers and our district Librarian. Thanks to all who put together this wonderfully informative and entertaining presentation!

  17. [...] Attribution of image sources is also very important, and this is another area the video could improve on. My 12 year old just completed his first oral history video documentary over the holidays (we burned the DVD version last night, in fact, for him to turn in during class today) and image attribution was something we talked about and worked on together. This can be a pain, it is time consuming, but it is also important. It’s vital we model respect for copyright and intellectual property in published videos like this, and to do that one of the best ideas is to start with copyright-friendly image sources. Joyce Valenza shared some great image source links in her “Getting Started” strand keynote for K12Online09, “The Wizard of Apps.” [...]

  20. This video validated to me that this is exactly what we can do for our students as life long learners and 21 Century teachers/facilitators. Of course attribution is essential although sometimes quite a pain. Learning new tools is always good but it means you will actually use them if you make a connection with them. For students if they make a connection with them outside of school then the lesson is twice as important.
